Hari has managed to create a wonderful storyline with a lot of comedy and action which became the kind of movie that everyone should watch. The cinematography was excellent as well as the music, which made this movie enjoyable for everyone from children to the elderly. The news about it created quite a buzz among people since she has been one of Malayalam's top actresses. A video was released on YouTube claiming that the actor Rajinikanth had been signed on to play a role in the film. Although there has been no official announcement from the production house or from Rajini himself, be it that he will not participate in/star in this movie or that he already has a prior commitment, thus forcing him to opt out of the project. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle during "Kochadaiiyaan" promotions, Hari denied all rumours of Rajinikanth being part of the film stating that no casting was finalized yet.In an interview with The Hindu newspaper Hari said "Yes, I have definitely asked for a narration from him [Rajini]. But it is not possible at the moment. He is very busy with his last four years of work which will end in December. And I don’t think he is ready to take a break from the work. So, we have decided to go ahead with another actor." Rajini later declared in a press meet that he would be doing a movie but "it won't be Lingaa". The news created a storm among fans and media who accused Hari of being untruthful towards his film then how could the actor announce that the project wasn't happening? As for Rajini, he was shooting for "Kochadaiiyaan" and had been asked to do an additional song for "Lingaa". Finally the film came to be made without him and was released some months later on 18 April 2011. The film had received average reviews upon release. "Rediff" gave it 3 stars out of 5 and said that the film is "an enjoyable entertainer". The critic adds that "the movie is ambitious, but it does not intend to leave us chasing after questions". Behindwoods, an Indian online Movie review portal gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote that "Lingaa appeals more to those who love cinema than those looking for a cinematic experience.
