The software is light and intuitive and it can be used by both experts and beginners. The Basic Edition supports PIC devices, but the Pro Edition also supports the MCP series of microcontrollers by Microchip. It can calculate all sorts of things, including: various mathematical functions; 2D and 3D plotting, linear regression analysis; frequency spectrum analysis, compression/expansion of data arrays, probability distribution analysis. If you want more features than are available in the Basic Edition or you want to be able to use it on other types of microcontrollers besides PICs, then the Pro Edition is for you. It has the following additional features: The Pro Edition can interface to MATLAB through a serial port using the COM port, however this functionality is only available in the Basic Edition. The Pro Edition also supports digital audio in and out using a high-density I2S interface, with 48MHz sampling rate on each channel. This software was launched on 9 November 2006. This version is compatible with Microchip's MCP, MPLABX compiler and debugger/monitoring software for PIC microcontrollers. Mikroc is a product of MikroElektronika. MikroElektronika was founded in 1988 by Daniel Bjarnason and was based in Reykjavík, Iceland. In 2001, the company changed ownership and moved to Santa Clara, CA. In 2004, MikroElektronika was purchased by Texas Instruments and continues to operate out of the City of Industry in California. Mikroc is noted for its ease of use, and its ability to provide statistical analysis, graphing and data processing tools. The software can read PIC microcontrollers' memory directly out of the device, which makes it easier for users to use in-circuit debugging. The Mikroc name used by Texas Instruments appears to be a continuation of the MikroElektronika name formerly used by Bjarnason. There are several iterations of the software available for different platforms. The current version is 6.1.0, released on 23 June 2009. Certain features of Mikroc are only available in the professional version. There is one main Windows version of the software. It is classified as a shareware package, meaning that you can try it for 15 days before purchasing a registration code at $300 USD (or the regional equivalent thereof). The following platforms are supported: A free demo is available for download on Texas Instruments' website. It allows users to see what the software has to offer without making the full purchase. The demo is limited in that users cannot save or export their data, and they cannot use certain tools (such as Monte Carlo simulations). All other functions remain fully functional. The demo period lasts for 15 days. cfa1e77820
